Below in red are my Aunt Betty’s words to me at a time I was complaining.
I try not to make my complaints out loud, so others don’t have to listen to them. Who likes to be around a complainer? The person that can manage to see what is good in the day is a gift of God. It helps me see how much God must love us, since He chose to come down and live with us here on earth where things keep happening that always to our liking. But He did that, because He loves us. It helps you see how great His love is. He didn’t have to put up with all of us, but He chose to because He loves us.
You can ask God to make your love that unselfish. There’s a lot you can learn in the wilderness. In the garden, Jesus said, “Not my will, but Thine be done.” Think about that. His humanity had to yield to the Divine Will. Ask him to pray through you. Not my will, but Thine be done.”
Ask Jesus to help you yield the stubbornness that is in battle with Him today. Tell Him you need His help to yield. Don’t try to do it on your own, because you’re not succeeding. That might be the problem. It’s too much in your will trying to do it. The way I pray is that I just be there with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. I open to Him crying out through me, “Not my will, but Thine be done.” Now if something else comes after I say that, if I feel, “Oh Lord, I keep trying to make the world over to my likes and dislikes, it’s not your will. You’re God. Your will is perfect. Please help me to yield to You. Then look at Him cry out through you that whatever feelings come up in you, you surrender those to Him. To actually admit, “Yes Lord. I have a stubborn will, and unless you do it in me, it’s not going to get done.” But a part of you needs to admit that that’s where you are. What we’re talking about is the desert. This is what you go into the desert for, to learn how to let God be God through you. Right there, in letting yourself yield, could be the best work God ever asked you to do for Him. The longer you live, the more you realize that you need to let go and let God. Stop trying to interfere. Let God be God.
