CHOOSING OUR FEELINGS IS LIKE CHOOSING SAND OVER ROCK

AM:  Today I want to work on faith, because I need a stronger faith for these times.

Betty: It’s a matter of choice. You do need to work on your faith, because it’s about making a choice. I reached a point at which I realized either God is a liar, or what is in the Scriptures are true. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) I didn’t know any other way to get to Heaven. So, I decided to trust Jesus. I feel like you haven’t decided. I think you know you should. You think it’s a nice thing to do. But you really have to convict yourself. It’s like, what choice do you have? Is there anything out there that’s more trustworthy or more believable?

You need to make this choice. Because there’s a part of you that decides for your feelings. If that were me, I could not walk through this life trusting the sand beneath my feet. To me, to choose your feelings over Jesus is to choose sand over rock. One day, because your feelings say you feel good, “Okay. Then Jesus is right,” But another day, if your feelings say you feel bad, well then maybe what Jesus said doesn’t apply to you. You know what I mean? I had to give that up. It was a luxury that was dangerous. Actually, I have been much more peaceful and much happier, since I decided to stop playing that game. It’s like I got to the point where if Jesus said it, if he stands for it, then I can trust it. It’s true, and I’m gonna believe it, regardless of what is happening around me, and regardless of how I feel. Notice the difference in us when we’re on the rock as compared to the sand?

AM: I want to be there?

Betty: What’s holding you back?

AM: I’m not quite sure what’s holding me back. But it’s like the emotions are too strong sometimes.

Betty: Okay, there’s where you have to make a decision

AM: But it’s hard to stop the emotions from rolling in.

Betty: The emotions can be strong in the negative. But you don’t have to believe them.

Are you standing on the Rock, believing Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life? Or are you standing on sand, following your feelings?
