Betty: I feel during these days, God wants to transform us. It’d be a big help. 

AM: Do you think he’s gonna give us extra graces during these days? 

Betty: Well, actually when a person sits in deep prayer, it’s a tremendous gift of God, because God actually does deep interior work in us while we’re still quiet. 

AM: I sit in church and…

Betty: Okay, so you would breathe in God so to speak. Are you imaging His light coming in? Or do you just be there in the stillness of knowing He’s there? 

AM: I sit in the stillness knowing he’s there. I tried to do what you said about meditating on the “I ams” in the Bible. I did it for awhile, but that was as far as I went. 

Betty: What you could do is use peace as a guide. It’s a sacrifice. You have a combination of operating in the head and the heart. So, our intellects want to have words to chew on. We don’t like wasting time. And you want to contemplate. The heart wants to go deeper into the love of God and experience transformation. But the intellect wants to get something done. And so, that’s our struggle when we’re trying to pray. But I found in life, the real work of God took place in the deeper moments when my mind was not as active. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have our mind active. I think we should. But on the other hand, as we get closer to God, we need to let our spirit talk to God without our intellect intruding. Because our intellect slows down our transformation sometimes with its busyness. So, the death to self is to actually just be there in that stillness, and let God do His thing. But I also want you to be able to follow the spirit if the Spirit calls you into meditation. Now, I’m getting the thought that the spirit is now beginning to move you to go deeper. It’s like diving into the ocean, instead of staying on the surface. And that’s when the Lord can begin to give us deeper wisdom.
