AM: I’m giving a testimony for a group of women and wanted your input.
Betty: Well, the ultimate goal, I would say, would be that God is truth, and he can only work with what is real. So, when we choose to identify with, you know, the deceitful part of ourself, we have to go alone. So, if you’re going to work with God, get with who you really are, and then call on him, and he can really help you. But God refuses to give homage to idols. Idols would be our own ego driven concept of ourself. It doesn’t exist, right? God has a heart for sinners. He won’t abandon you. bBut you make more progress when you stay with what is real. That’s been my experience. You draw closer to God, because He is real. He cannot take to see into himself.
AM: And how do you know you’re being real?
Betty: It’s really a gift that you have to beg the Lord for. “Lord, you’re truth. Help me to stay within truth and not get caught in my ego” would be a sample of some kind of prayer, you know. I really want to serve you. I would say spiritual people, I think it’s best to avoid psychological terms. So, you would say, “Help me not to get caught into a phony self. They would like that better than my ego. Because there’s one part of the ego that’s really good, and then there’s another part of the ego that is false and needs to be repented of, because God can only work with the part that’s true.
