AM: I was praying with X who is depressed, and I found my energy getting drained.
Betty: Say a prayer. “Lord, we just lift up what is happening to AM. And if this is not to your glory, and she’s not ready to allow you to turn it into your glory, then Lord, please give her some relief. Lift it from her. Set her free.” Lift that cross to the Lord. Can you image, think or feel yourself lifting it up to him? And can you say, “Father, if it is possible please take this chalice from me.
AM: It makes me feel sad for X, because he feels 100 times worse.
Betty: Well, you understand what a cross that is.
AM: I don’t want to get the depression back. He doesn’t have any support, because he doesn’t open up, so he’s alone in it.
Betty: You reached out for help when you were young, and I’m so grateful you did. And look at the beautiful blessing that came out of it. You and I became friends. I could have went ahead and died, and you never would have been exposed to all this grief.
AM: And more likely you wouldn’t have been exposed to the grief.
Betty: Well, I find you a joy.
AM: Plus, I wrote your book for you. So I’ve helped get that off your plate. That’s not a bad deal.
Betty: Well, okay, but that wasn’t my motivation.
AM: I know you’re selfless.
Betty: I am very grateful that God opened the door. And you might say, “But it’s a horrible thing to go through.” Yeah, but I found a blessing. Remember Romans 8:28. I’d love for you to really take that seriously. And when things are hard, say to the Lord, “Okay, Lord, don’t let me miss the good that you intend to come out of this.” It’s gonna make your life so much easier.
