AM: What kind of doors can people open that will allow people to dump stuff on them?
Betty: There’s no simple answer to that. You have to work with each person and see what they do that gets them into danger? Usually, when we are in denial about our own stuff, that’s when we’re vulnerable to being hooked. Remember the Scripture, “You shall learn the truth and the truth will set you free?” Why does truth set a person free?
AM: If they had faith they wouldn’t get into that stinking thinking.
Betty: No, you wouldn’t, because you’re dishonoring God when you reject His truth in favor of Satan’s lies. That’s a direct insult. Stop and think. You play the “what if” games which are very destructive, and yet, for some reason, you permit yourself to play the “what if” games, even though you know that has never really worked.
AM: Now, when the “what ifs” float through my head, I stop myself and say, “No, you can’t go there.” But the fact that it’s floating through my head means that I’m still angry about it. I still have unforgiveness there.
Betty: Now you’re getting more into where the real problem. So, you’re clinging to that which your faith tells you is a no-no. See, I believe what Jesus Christ said. And by His very nature, He cannot lie. So, it is true. Since He is God, He contains the perfection of all wisdom. Therefore, it’s not nonsense. So, if something comes against what Jesus taught, I’ve grown to say, “Okay, that road’s not gonna work. Because He who is true and utter wisdom said it doesn’t work.” But I think what I hear happening in you is your slavery to your own will. You go into rebellion and feeling bad. You say, “I don’t care. I’m just going to go down this road,” even though you have the same bit of information that I have. Jesus said that road doesn’t work. So, I look at that and say, “She’s deliberately hurting herself.” It’s not that you intend to do that. But that’s why I’m being strict with you today, and I keep begging you to think things through. Just don’t be superficial. Trust that there’s a point to thinking things through. Why am I doing this? I wonder if, as you get closer to healing, you won’t find that your feet injury, in some way, is part of the Lord trying to get you to think things through so, you don’t go into these “I don’t care” places and kind of destroy yourself in the process. It is a very loving thing He’s doing. Because letting this happen to your feet has certainly gotten your attention. You can’t easily say, “Well, I don’t care.” “Lord, please teach me what good you intend to bring out of this” is a very powerful prayer. It’s not to be taken lightly whereby you say, “Oh, I’ll do it if I feel like it,” and then you forget about it. You’ve got to get out of this careless, “I don’t care place.” Go beyond it. The “I don’t care” is more of the teenager, and I think spiritually you should be moving out of the teen spirituality. In a lot of areas, your spirituality is very adult, but in certain areas, it’s still a teenager. Because you really do care, so it’s a lie. You really do care a heck of a lot, so that’s why you’re so stressed.
Is there any place you go into the “I don’t care,” instead of looking for the good God is bringing about?
