Betty: You don’t want to be dependent on your feelings for a perception of reality. Enter ever more deeply in seeing the world through faith. Because if you try to see God’s world through your feelings, Satan can grab you by the nose and lead you down the wrong road. Faith doesn’t always respond with feelings. And yet the liturgy is set up, in such a way, that it tries to reach the feelings, but not through consciousness, but through unconsciousness. So, it comes in a different door. It comes in through symbols. Jesus spoke in parables. In a way, they’re symbols in the use of language. So, we are in a mystery here. And yet, the funny thing, is people who are cooperating with trying to enter into what Jesus is asking via Luisa’s writings, all of them say to me that they’re experiencing such peace, despite all that’s going on in our crazy world. Other people around them are emitting anxiety at a very high rate. So, it’s like the feelings are being acknowledged, but in a deeper sense of peace. It’s not through understanding, but through peace. Look at yourself. Are you anxious and upset? 

AM: No. 

Betty: Okay. Then, you’re experiencing that of which I speak. But you’re frustrated. 

AM: Yeah, I’ve got the depression. I’m just plugging along, but it’s pretty dry. 

Betty: Yeah, see that’s part of growth via the dark night of the spirit in which the Lord is purifying feelings. It could be that you’re undergoing the spiritual purification. If you look at your daily life, are you one more or less likely to react in extremes than you used to be? 

AM: Less 

Betty: Okay. See, this is what I’m observing, too. It’s greater stability of your personality. Whereas before you’d be carried by your feelings. 

AM: I’m trying not to let my feelings rule me. It’s more that I don’t feel consolations right now. I’m just kind of plugging along. 

Betty: But you could take that very thought, and let that become profitable as one of your acts. Because the more that we do acts, the more light that’s going into the world to help make a difference in people’s lives.
